More Details About Verizon Ellipsis 7 Tablet Emerge

Earlier today we picked up on a leaked press render of a 7 inch tablet that Verizon is expected to announce soon, called the Ellipsis 7. More details have emerged about this device today, courtesy of a internal handout that was reportedly given to certain Verizon employees today. Apparently Ellipsis is a new brand of budget oriented devices that Verizon is going to launch come November 7th, with Ellipsis 7 being the first device in this new brand. The tablet is said to have a 7 inch IPS display with “HD” resolution, presumably 1,280×800.

GM takes heat for aborted Silverado riff on 'Boston Strong' at World Series

During game five of the World Series, Chevrolet was set to do a spot of marketing for the 2014 Silverado - fans at Busch Stadium in St. Louis would hold up placards that spelled out the words "Silverado Strong," a theme that Chevy has been promoting since the Silverado's launch with the song "Strong," by Will Hoge. The St. Louis promo was ultimately called off, though, over concerns that it'd be insensitive to the visiting Boston Red Sox. (You can see the image of what the stunt would have looked like above, courtesy of one timely Reddit user.)

Now, the Busch Stadium stunt might not have been a big deal, had the St.

Journey's Producer Thinks Aesthetics Should Be Designed First, Not Game Mechanics

Journey's Producer Thinks Aesthetics Should Be Designed First, Not Game Mechanics

When it comes to video games, there is a debate as to whether gameplay is more important or if graphics are more important. Some gamers feel that graphics adds to the overall experience (we agree with this), while there are those who feel that gameplay is more important and if you have ever played games back in the 90s or have played text-based games like MUD, then you're probably in agreement that gameplay matters more. Speaking at GamesBeat 2013, former Journey producer and co-founder of Funomena, Robin Hunicke, seems to believe that the aesthetics of the game should come first, followed by the mechanics.

Samsung Reportedly Gearing Up To Mass Produce Curved Batteries

Samsung Reportedly Gearing Up To Mass Produce Curved Batteries

It wasn't too long ago that Samsung announced the Galaxy Round, making it the first smartphone with a curved display for 2013. The handset is based around the hardware specs of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, although the key difference would be its design (which is curved, obviously), and its battery size with is set at 2,800mAh versus the Galaxy Note 3's 3,200mAh. We're not sure what's with the different battery size, but presumably the design of the Galaxy Round had something to do with it.

Nissan to unveil next-gen Qashqai on Nov. 7

Never heard of the Nissan Qashqai. That's alright, because Nissan has a big crossover lineup, and this one is only sold overseas. But in the markets where it's available, it's been an unbridled success and the cash-cow its name suggests. It was introduced in 2007, and by the end of that year, Nissan had already sold 100,000 of them in Europe alone. By 2011 it had made a million of them, and to date has sold over two million worldwide. And now it's preparing to launch an all-new model to replace it.

Spied while undergoing development a few months ago, Nissan has now announced that it will reveal the new Qashqai on November 7th.

This is how Norwegian hipsters drift

The Scandinavian Flick is a driving technique used mainly in rallying, but applicable in a number of racing disciplines, used to elicit some serious oversteer. There is much Scandinavian flicking going on in this professionally filmed video, shot on the closed roads of Norway. This slidey action is courtesy of a heavily modified Toyota Cressida. Featuring work from Norway's Underground Garage and renamed "Shakotan," it sports a 2JZ-GE engine that's been liberated from the engine bay of a Toyota Supra. Shakotan is owned by Norwegian drifter Fredrik Sorlie, who just happens to be tossing the modded Cressida about.

The secret to big wheel proportions

The secret to big wheel proportions

The latest video in Autoline's excellent Design Handbook series, which has already covered topics like the bone line and why the gas tank is on the right or left, takes a look at a kind of love-it, hate-it category in its latest video. Large-diameter wheels, like the kind that have seemingly increasingly become common in the automotive marketplace, are strong visual features on vehicles but often come at the expense of ride comfort. And as the video points out, they also have an impact on how much a vehicle costs to run.

Consumer Reports suggests infotainment woes may be underreported

Does it seem that Consumer Reports never has anything nice to say about infotainment systems. Well, the problem could be even worse than you think. After talking to CR, Wards Auto says that problems with infotainment systems could be underreported because some customers don't use the systems to their fullest potential. Responses from customer reliability surveys (used to rate cars and their problems) indicate that younger respondents were more specific in their complaints, which could mean that older users might not be trying to perform in-depth tasks like phone pairing and updating social media.

Believe it or not, unloading a car from a transport vehicle is a delicate science. It's alarmingly easy to damage a car in the tight, elevated confines of a dedicated car hauler, but as these gentlemen at the Monterey car week found out, even getting a car off a flatbed comes with its own unique set of challenges. When the car you're moving off said flatbed is the only Ferrari P4x5 Competizione in existence, meticulously built to the specifications of Ferrari collector James Glickenhaus, we imagine the stress level is even greater. Yes, this is an unloading gone wrong, although it could have always been worse.

According to reports out of Korea, Samsung has nearly completed development of what will be the first 64-bit chip in their Exynos lineup. While there are still a few technical and logistical issues to iron out, barring any crazy set backs the new CPU will debut in the Samsung Galaxy S5. Rumors say the chip will utilize a 14nm process and be based on ARM's big.LITTLE platform, much like the current Exynos 5 octa. The eight-core chip would deploy Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A57 cores with the ability to push all cores simultaneously while offering reduced power consumption.

All good things must come to an end, that is one of the cardinal rules of life. The Nintendo WIi, which was originally scoffed at by certain quarters for its "waggle controls", managed to have quite a fair run in its lifetime to date. The thing is, the console has more or less reached the end of its lifespan, with the Land of the Rising Sun being the first region to discontinue it. Now, we have word that Europe will be joining Japan in this aspect, stopping all shipments of the Nintendo Wii.

Kancha Laboratory has the answer to where you put your headphones when you aren't wearing them

Where do you put your headphones when you aren't wearing them.  However you store them, they're likely to be taking up some desk space.  With the Kancha 0.2 hanger, designed for the latest iMac (2012-2013) by Kancha Laboratory, you'll free up that space.  You hook the Kancha 0.2 over the top of your iMac, and the headphones can hang behind the computer, which is often wasted space.  It's made of clear methacrylate, so it should blend in with the top of the iMac when seen from the front.  Kancha Laboratory is located in Spain, but hopefully they'll ship worldwide or have some local distributors for their products.

Dolphins Inspire Invention Of Rescue Radar

Nature has more often than not been the inspiration when it comes to delivering solutions to problems. Take flight for instance – the way a bird's wings is shaped has led us to develop the gift of flight, and this time around, British engineers have managed to gain inspiration from dolphins when it comes to a brand new kind of radar device which is said to be able to track miners who happen to be trapped underground in a jiffy. This technology will also come in handy when locating skiers who happen to be buried in an avalanche.

A rolling stone might gather no moss, and companies certainly do not want to remain stuck in a single place without making any progress at all in relation to its competitors. Having said that, one of the ways that companies could improve themselves would be by doing plenty of research and development on their own part, or alternatively, purchase companies that already have the kind of expertise which they are looking for. In this case, Yahoo has acquired LookFlow, an image recognition company, in order to ensure that their plan to improve photo discovery on Flickr will be able to kick off on the right note.

People, us included, make a big stink about the importance of family sedans. There's no doubt they're critical – they represent a huge slice of the market's annual sales and profits. However, despite accounting for far fewer transactions than the midsize sedan segment, the fullsize sedan is getting attention from manufacturers now that our market's entire lineup of those (slightly) smaller four-doors has turned over in the last two years or so.
