1 Million Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Units Sold In South Korea

Last month it was reported that Samsung had managed to sell over 5 million units of the Galaxy Note 2 globally, and it seems that almost a fifth of those sales came from their home of South Korea. According to a report by MK News, they claim that Samsung has managed to sell 1 million Galaxy Note 2 units in South Korea, a milestone which they have managed to reach in about 90 days since its launch in September. As SammyHub has noted, if Samsung were to keep up this momentum, there is a good chance that Samsung could hit the 10 million milestone next month.

If the main reason you jailbreak your iOS device is because you want to downloaded pirated apps as opposed to tweaking the operating system to your liking, then you might be interested to learn that Hackulous has announced that they will be shutting down. What this means is that jailbreakers who jailbreak their iOS device for Installous will need to source alternative places for their crack IPAs. According to the folks at Hackulous, they claim that they are shutting down as less and less people frequent their forums, making it difficult for them to moderate and keep online.

Nokia Lumia 610 To Get Angry Birds?

It seems that Rovio's hugely successful gaming franchise that is known as Angry Birds might have made its way to yet another platform that is known as the Nokia Lumia 610. Are there no platforms that are not sacred to this avian flinging title. Not really, and Angry Birds fans who own a Nokia Lumia 610 would definitely be more than happy to hear this from the grapevine.

Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but to that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.

Hyundai working to replace car keys with smartphones

Hyundai is working on technology that may allow you to access your vehicle with nothing more than a swipe of your smartphone. The automaker's i30 Connectivity Concept boasts an embedded NFC tag that allows the user to open the doors with a quick swipe. Drop the phone in the center console, and the driver can pair with the on-board touch screen and start the car. An inductive charging plate takes care of keeping the phone alive without having to fuss with cords or adapters.

Is Chevy giving Beyonce a C7 Corvette during Super Bowl halftime show?

Could Beyonce really become one of the first people to take delivery of a C7 Corvette. After all, she reportedly only learned to drive two years ago. If The Detroit Bureau sources are to be believed, the pop star will be given the keys to a 2014 Corvette during the Super Bowl halftime show. The idea isn't too far-fetched despite General Motors vowing not to advertise during the upcoming game.

Martian Watch Does Voice Commands

Martian Watch Does Voice Commands

Is the age of Star Trek upon us. Perhaps we are on our way, but we still haven't come close to beaming entire physical bodies down to earth from a spaceship. Just in case you were wondering what Marvin the Martian is doing on the right, he is there to illustrate the Martian Watch, a timepiece that will debut at CES which is happening in just a fortnight's time, where it is touted to be the "world's first" (we are always very wary about such claims) Bluetooth voice command watch which enables you to talk, listen and control your smartphone – all from the comfort of your wrist.

Toyota shares rise on smaller-than-expected settlement news

Following news that Toyota has proposed a massive settlement to address the owners of vehicles effected by the unintended acceleration recall, shares for the automaker are up 2.6 percent. Over the course of this year, Toyota's stock has jumped 51.7 percent. "My initiate reaction would be 'that's it'. $1 billion charge that covers recalls and everything else and you are looking at a $250 million compensation fund, that's nothing," said a senior trader at a foreign brokerage to Automotive News.

Mitsubishi Mirage will launch in US with three-cylinder engine (video)

We have a date with Mitsubishi Mirage (again). The Japanese subcompact is slated to arrive on our shores in September 2013, and it's one of the product offerings meant to help Mitsubishi's US arm raise sales in its next financial year from 55,000 to 80,000. If next year were 1989, we'd say there's no reason that couldn't happen, but from what we've seen, the Mirage is so magnificently meek (have you seen the interior?) that we aren't sure how it will manage that kind of US sales aggression in the 21st century. Continuing that theme, Car and Driver reports that the Mitsu will launch here with a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine.

CES 2013, as with CES events in the past, looks to be an exciting one and if you're wondering what new display technology will be on site, LG will most definitely have you covered. Earlier we reported that as far as the big screens were concerned, LG will be revealing 3 UHD displays ranging from 55" up to 84", but what about smaller displays that could make its way onto our smartphones or tablets. It seems that LG will have you covered as well. LG is said to be set to reveal a 4.7" display with a bezel measuring only 1mm thin, meaning that we could be seeing phones with smaller bezels in the future.

Even the press release that we requested from Risden's contact person is short and vague. That's all pretty much okay with us as long as the shadowy tuners, you know, make good on this sweet-looking BMW M6 racecar thing. Dubbed the Risden 6R, we're told that the M6 modification will result in a vehicle that is more adept at track work, while still being street-legal.

The BTPS adds a tire pressure sensor to your bicycle

Cars nowadays come with TPMS sensors which basically let you know when you have a flat tire by monitoring your tire's pressure. However the same cannot be said for bicycles, at least until now when a Kickstarter project has been launched called the BTPS - Bike Tire Pressure System, in which its creators are hoping to bring to bicycles what car drivers have been enjoying for the past few years. However since bicycles do not come with built-in dashboards or heads up displays, how the BTPS works is that it will relay the information to your smartphone via an app and will accurately read the pressure of your tires between 0 and 174psi.

This is closely followed in second place by requests for a reindeer while in third place, although Santa might have trouble squeezing it into a stocking, is a pet horse. Some parents may choose to splash out on a car, the fourth most in-demand gift - even though their kids are too young to drive, while in fifth place is their very own pet pooch.

EU auto insurers can no longer use gender to calculate premiums

EU auto insurers can no longer use gender to calculate premiums

The European Union's Gender Directive is officially in effect. Last year, the EU Court of Justice ruled that "differences in insurance pricing based purely on a person's sex are discriminatory." That means that insurance companies can't factor gender into their premium tables, so as of December 21, 2012 the rates that EU residents pay for different types of insurance products will change – the expected trend for car insurance is that women's rates will go up while men's rates go down. The courtroom argument is that the varying rates for men and women are arbitrary.

Battery Power From Plants

Battery Power From Plants

We do have this problem surrounding batteries, especially when it comes to the issue of disposing them in a safe manner. Well, nature has come to humanity's rescue once again, where an ancient natural red plant dye could actually be the ideal candidate to create an eco-friendly, sustainable, lithium-ion battery. Researchers are currently looking into developing batteries that will rely on the roots of a climbing herb known as the madder plant. For more than 3,500 years, civilizations in Asia and the Middle East have boiled madder roots to extract purpurin, a nontoxic dye they used to color fabrics vivid oranges, reds and pinks.

New Cars Continue To Amaze And Dismay. The Ford Fusion's sleek shape proves midsize cars need not be boring. It's a hard job since some of these great ideas can simply amaze or, if poorly done, merely annoy. As cars become more uniform in performance and function, manufacturers will look even harder for that special something to stand out from the crowd.

So here are a few things in the current crop of new cars that have surprised, delighted, and yes, annoyed.
