T-Mobile says its Nexus 4 won't provide WiFi calling, makes a stronger case for going unlocked

T-Mobile says its Nexus 4 won't provide WiFi calling, makes a stronger case for going unlocked

T-Mobile has already made an odd pair of decisions around its approach to the Nexus 4, namely its choices to ask $200 on contract and $500 up-front for a smartphone that costs $349 unlocked. It might be time to add a third quirk to the list, if a forgivable (and not entirely surprising) one. The carrier has confirmed to TmoNews that it won't be offering WiFi calling through its edition of Google's flagship; if cost or coverage makes cellular voice a scarce resource, VoIP might be the only viable backup.

Legacy Power Wagon Conversion is three tons of vintage American iron

Legacy Power Wagon Conversion is three tons of vintage American iron

There's a soft spot in our hearts for well-done resuscitation of vintage off-road iron. Perhaps the most notable company performing such restomod work is Icon 4x4, but the Californian outfit isn't the only company turning its attention to the down-and-dirty side of the vintage scene. Legacy Classic Trucks in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is using the 2012 SEMA Show to display the Legacy Power Wagon. As its name implies, the truck started life many, many years ago as a Dodge Power Wagon (built between 1945 and 1980 – not to be confused with the current version), itself based on an older military design.

Did Google Really Sell 1 Million Nexus 7s Last Month?

Did Google Really Sell 1 Million Nexus 7s Last Month?

Apple releases sales numbers, but none of the major Android manufacturers do, so market share comparisons–especially of the tablet market–are hard to do. Which is why it was interesting when Asus executive David Chang let this goodie slip to the Wall Street Journal:. "At the beginning, [Nexus 7 shipments] was, for instance, 500K units a month, then maybe 600, 700K. This latest month, it was close to 1 million."

Wow! One million Nexus 7 tablets sold in a month–that's a lot, but nothing compared to Apple's 100 million iPads sold.

Hurst Edition Trans Am proves the Screaming Chicken will rise from the ashes

It seems the Pontiac Trans Am steadfastly refuses to die. Ever since Chevrolet was granted a retrofied Camaro to compete with the Ford Mustang, Pontiac lovers have lamented the loss of this 1970s icon. And, looking at the Hurst Edition from Trans Am Depot, shown here at the 2012 SEMA Show, may explain what all the fuss is about. It's not going to appeal to everyone's muscle-car tastes, but there's certainly room for a brash-and-bold black-and-gold Special Edition in many a Trans Am lover's garage. After all, if you want the keys to a custom pony car, you'll certainly get noticed in this one.

Well if you were successful with your application for the beta, developer Croteam has revealed that the beta Steam client for Linux will feature three games - Portal, Team Fortress 2 and Serious Sam 3 BFE.

Why Hurricane Sandy fallout will hit luxury carmakers particularly hard

When we say the worst of Hurricane Sandy has passed, we're only talking about the weather phenomena; the depth of the storm's other impacts will take time to measure. Many of the estimated 4,751 car dealers in the states affected by Sandy spent the run-up to the storm moving their inventory to high ground if possible and bracing their dealerships for the storm. Many had already been through Hurricane Irene had some practice, but, as one dealer said, the water levels before Sandy hit were already at Irene levels, so all they could do was hope they got it right.

You know, I once saw this world map that divided the world into how America sees it – and China was labeled as the "World's Supermarket". The thing is, one would not be wrong to think this way considering how they managed to churn out the ZTE U950, a 1.3GHz Tegra 3 powered smartphone that costs all of just 999 yuan, meaning it does not break the $200 barrier if you convert the local currency there to US dollars. Sony Xperia Tablet S sales to resume soon

Sony Xperia Tablet S sales to resume soon

It was earlier in October that the Sony Xperia Tablet S was said to experience a manufacturing error that resulted in the purported tablet's waterproof capability being gimped – basically, a gap has occurred between the display and the back of the unit, allowing water as well as other liquids (such as coffee and Coke) to the Xperia S's inner sanctum, understandably short circuiting whatever is in there along the way. This was discovered by the folks at Sony, who then promptly halted the sales of the Xperia S – after 100,000 of those tablets had been shipped worldwide.

An update to iTunes normally isn't the most exciting news, but iTunes 11 promises to be the biggest update to Apple's content engine in years. And during Apple's iPad Mini event, it was promised before the end of October; Apple was sure enough that they put a countdown on the iTunes page. Well, they've had to change plans–no, it wasn't because of the Scott Forstall affair–and now iTunes 11 is due sometime in November. . In addition to a completely revamped interface, iTunes 11 also promises performance updates, a way for artists to communicate with fans, and increased iCloud functionality.

Apple increase app prices in European iTunes App Store due to changes in exchange rate

If you're living in Europe and you were thinking about getting your first iOS device, you might be interested to learn that last Friday, it seems that Apple has bumped the prices up in its European iTunes App Store. This was primarily due to the exchange rate changes, where now the minimum price of an app in the iTunes App Store will go for $1.15. One developer thinks that Apple could have factored in value added taxes (VAT) in its price increase, but ultimately we guess both Apple and developers stand to gain in this price hike.

Auto Express cites unnamed sources as saying the car will bow at the Moscow Motor Show next year and will likely feature the 2.2-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine found in the sedan. Good for 173 horsepower, that mill can hustle the four-door to 60 mph in under 7.8 seconds.

AU Optronics, the Taiwanese TFT-LCD manufacturer, has unveiled the world's thinnest bezel display on a smartphone. AUO harnesses its “super narrow border technology” and low temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) methodologies to significantly reduce the display border width to a mere 1mm on a 4.46-inch screen that has a 720p resolution. This, according to AUO, will make images and videos appear larger in size and better in terms of quality. “The panel is capable of exhibiting sharper quality for texts, and refined and realistic image property,” the company said.

AMD has long stuck to x86 architecture for its server processors, but its gearing up to add 64-bit ARM-based Opteron CPUs to its arsenal in 2014. Sunnyvale also plans to reap the fruits of its SeaMicro acquisition by employing the company's "fabric" tech to link its ARM-based processors in clusters for maximizing efficiency. Where might these new processors come in handy. AMD thinks they'll fit nicely into clouds and "mega data centers" thanks to their power efficiency, but it'll let its x86-based hardware do the heavier lifting such as video encoding and rendering.

Huge news out of Apple today, as the company's senior vice president of iOS software, Scott Forstall, will leave the company next year after putting in some 15 years. Furthermore, John Browett - head of Apple retail - is also on his way out. The memo was delivered late today, on a day that is littered with other news that the company may hope will bury the bulk of it. The driver's side of the Camaro is stock 1968 Camaro RS except for the clearcoat paint. The rear wheel is the stock 1968 hubcap and whitewall, while the front is the optional redline tire and rally wheel.

I always like the way technology and the arts merge together, meeting in the middle and delivering a totally new take on what was once something traditional. The Metropole Orchestra, for instance, will take to the social network Twitter for a performance known as 'Tweetphony', which is a symphony of tweets. The main objective of Tweetphony is to raise awareness of the fact that it's subsidy and existence are under threat. Participants who drop by the campaign site are able to rely on a digital piano interface in order to compose their music, while listening to other compositions.
