Jaguar lets its F-Type roar

Jaguar lets its F-Type roar

The run-up to an honest introduction to the Jaguar F-Type continues with this: footage of the 380-horsepower, supercharged convertible on the automaker's test track. Martin Brundle hosts the 'spot' and gets a ride-along with Mike Cross, chief engineer for Jaguar, but naturally, we don't get any more hard information than we already have on the car. What we do get, though, is sound. No matter how the F-Type looks – and it looks good on the run here, even in camo – with that exhaust it won't be creeping up on anyone. Those of you attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed, this is your appetizer to the F-Type's run up the hill.

webOS hacked, offers swiping gesture to switch apps

HP recently made available the source code for webOS Community Edition, and you can say that developers have dived into the operating system with a buzz, modifying it according to their whim, fancy and ability. Well, what are the results of their labor. One of the initial hacks hail from from Dave Freeman, who was a developer at HP Palm. He successfully enabled the user to switch between currently running apps by swiping from the side of the screen. Normally, this move is done by swiping up from the bottom of the screen so that a set of "cards” are brought up, and then you make the switch through scrolling it.

Pentagon starts Phoenix trial to harvest defunct satellites, MacGyver new ones from orbit

The Phoenix Frankenprogram to harvest the corpses of expired satellites and cobble together new ones seemed like one of DARPA's more daft ideas, but this one has actually kicked off its first phase of development. The plan is to first launch a service craft — replete with robotic arms and enough processing horsepower to work independently if needed — followed by the tiny base-unit skeleton satlets. The service mothership would dip into an orbital area called the “graveyard”, grabbing pre-chosen cadavers and picking off usable parts, especially valuable antenna arrays, with its robo-limbs.

Just two years ago RIM was on a high, and moments ago, when the company reported its Q1 earnings, it was apparent that what I've been saying for the last four years has come true: RIM, Research In Motion, the company that practically invented mobile email, that drastically changed the technology industry, a forward thinking company invented and run by two brilliant men, is finished.

Pocket TV turns televisions in giant Android devices

Pocket TV is a simple concept: what if a smart HDMI dongle could turn your TV into an Android device. As you have guessed, the idea is that Pocket TV is a Micro computer that runs on Ice Cream Sandwich / Android 4.0. It looks like a USB memory key, but it is a real Android computer. Now, the idea of having a micro-computer doesn't stop at making TVs start. You can also take it with you anywhere, and as long as you can connect it to an HDMI port, you've got your computer with you.

Google Drive for iOS and PC offline editing introduced

Google has introduced the Google Drive app for iOS, which lets iPhone and iPad users access and manage (adding collaborators) their Google Drive and Google Docs documents and files. Reading documents is not really news, but being able to manage them and setup some permission can be handy on the go. Unfortunately, Google Drive for iOS is only a viewer and a very basic document manager. It will display the documents without any problems and would even let you download them if you expect to not have a network connection.

After Snapdragon S4 fiasco, Qualcomm mulls own wafer fab. Or Apple-like big checks to suppliers

Qualcomm is reportedly getting sick of TSMC's issues with the 28 nm process used to make its Snapragon S4 systems-on-a-chip (SOCs) – and the shipping delays that these have caused so far. This lack of supply has, in fact, affected its earnings for the second quarter, and will further take its toll on the numbers for Q3. So, understandably, the company is thinking about doing something to prevent such situations from ever occurring again. Although Qualcomm is one of the world's biggest chip designers, it's also the world's biggest fabless chip maker – which means that it doesn't have its own factories to make those chips in.

That is why newer models are being built all the time just to add in some more tools into them. The CRKT Tool comes in a unique design unlike most multi-tools out there. Instead of a split-handle design that is common among current multi-tools, the CRKT Tool is designed with fold-out tools instead similar to a pocket knife.

JuiceBuddy – World's Smallest iPhone Charger

While portable devices like iPhones are quite handy enough to bring along anywhere, charging them is usually another matter. Users have to bring along those bulky chargers with their cables and such just to make sure that they are handy when the devices need charging. It would therefore be a welcome if one has the JuiceBuddy handy. The JuiceBuddy may be considered as the world's smallest iPhone charger by virtue of its size.
