My BMW Remote app ready to Play with Android

My BMW Remote app ready to Play with Android

Stateside and overseas iOS users with a predilection for remotely controlling high-end German autos have had nearly a half year's worth of smug to lord over their Android counterparts. Not so anymore, as BMW's spreading the love and making its Remote app available now for that Google-led contingent on the Play store. The car maker hasn't updated this iteration with any additional perks, preferring instead to keep the user experience consistent and giving drivers of BMW Assist-enabled vehicles the same ability to remotely lock doors, adjust the A/C, blow the horn or trigger the car's lights from afar.

Jay Leno shows off the BaT Falcon of his dreams

Jay Leno owns all kinds of cars: Steam powered, 100-year-old electric and modern-day supercars. His legendary garage is teeming with millions of dollars of iron. But his dream car has always been the 1963 1x2 Ford Falcon Sprint. So when he saw exactly the car on BringATrailer.com, he plunked down the $26,000 for the mint condition, seriously modified Falcon and sent a trailer.

This Falcon Sprint is built out exactly the way Leno says he would have built it. It has a 1965 289-cubic-inch small block under the hood with 360 horsepower and the battery in the trunk.

Sony suggests Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates for 2011 Xperias are still possible

Last week, a Sony UK official informed the world that some Xperia smartphones introduced last year (including the Arc S) would not get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Luckily, today Sony has posted a note saying that the UK official "gave information out in error on our Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software development and rollout for 2011 Xperia smartphones.". The company further mentioned that it is "actively investigating Android OS upgrades for all devices." However, it didn't say if the 2011 Xperia line would be updated to Jelly Bean or not.

The design features sizable air intakes down low, and it looks as if a new hood is part of the recipe as well.

Amazon updates Cloud Player with 256 Kbps matched files, faster import, direct delivery (update: Roku, Sonos coming soon)

Amazon's Cloud Player service just scored some major upgrades, including quality and import enhancements. Perhaps most notable is a new 256 Kbps option for matched files, including songs you imported before today. That bitrate, in MP3 format, is available for new tracks and albums added to the cloud - a process that's been streamlined as well, with Cloud Player scanning your library and automatically offering up matched tracks, rather than requiring manual imports. In addition, music you buy in the Amazon MP3 Store will show up in your Player automatically, including past purchases (in cases where the site has the necessary rights).

We just saw some evidence a few days ago a new QWERTY slider from Pantech would soon be hitting Verizon, and it turns out that was indeed the case. The carrier has now officially announced the Pantech Marauder, an LTE-equipped device that will set you back just $50 after a $50 mail-in rebate (on a two-year contract) when it becomes available on August 2nd. Not surprisingly, that won't exactly buy you the highest-end phone around - you'll get a 3.8-inch WVGA screen, a 5-megapixel camera, an unspecified 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, mobile hotspot functionality, and Android 4.0.

Freedom Pop 4G hotspot case turns iPod Touch into a near-iPhone

Freedom Pop 4G hotspot case turns iPod Touch into a near-iPhone

Freedom is coming out with a 4G case that practically turns an iPod Touch (gen 4) into an iPhone. It works by having a 4G LTE (Sprint Network, with WiMax and 3G fallback, I'm told) functionality directly in the case, which is also a WIFI hotspot. The iPod can then access the internet over the WiFi connection. Interestingly, Freedom Pop made a name for themselves by coming up with the same concept for iPhone 4x4S first. In my opinion, the iPod version adds much more value because iPods don't have a cellular connection to start with.

The pricing is worth looking at too. The device itself costs $99 and comes with 1GB of free data every month.

A while back, there were rumors that suggested that the only reason Nintendo created the Wii U Pro controller was because some publishers refused to release games on the upcoming Wii U console if they did not have a more "conventional" gamepad.  While not exactly confirming the rumors about the publisher aspect, Wii U hardware producer Katsuya Eguchi explained the reason behind the creation of the Wii U Pro in an interview with Gameplanet, which was to help open up multi-platform support to third-party developers.

Are your elders always complaining about loud and monotonous music. Or perhaps you've started to feel similar sentiments. The Artificial Intelligence Research Institute in Barcelona says it's not just a matter of opinion. The team analyzed data on loudness, pitch and timbre from just under half a million tracks spanning 55 years, finding the average volume of recordings has increased in that time — said to be the doing of record labels so songs stand out amongst other radio noise.

Earlier this week we reported HTC officially announced that the Desire HD won't be receiving the Ice Cream Sandwich – despite the phone packing hardware similar to its newer phones that run on ICS. In an attempt to appease customers, HTC stated that the way that the Desire HD's internal storage is partitioned, it would require users to wipe their device before they could perform an upgrade. In addition to the partition issues, performance was said to be compromised even if they updated the phone and they'd rather not have that.

Last we heard, Facebook was working with HTC to launch a new Facebook-branded phone "by next year.". Now Bloomberg, which spoke to people with knowledge of the matter, is reporting that Facebook has delayed the handset's release to mid 2013, in order to "give HTC more time to work on other products.".

Living in the woods of Southern Indiana, we see all sorts of wildlife on a regular basis. Deer, raccoons, coyotes and birds to name a few. Although I don't consider myself an actual bird watcher, I do have an above average knowledge about birds. Back when we were kids, my sister and I would bird watch from our bed room windows. We kept track of the birds we saw by writing down the date and time we saw them in spiral bound notebooks. We would be so excited when we saw a new bird for the first time. I can remember shrieking when we saw our first Pileated Woodpecker.
