Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse brings one-make series to the road

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse brings one-make series to the road

Lamborghini announced a new Gallardo model today, the all-wheel-drive LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, and it's almost identical to the LP 570-4 Super Trofeo single-series race car. Its world premiere will be held at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The street-legal Squadra Corse shares key components with the Super Trofeo – both of which are based on the Gallardo Superleggera – including the 570-horsepower V10, carbon fiber rear wing and removable engine hood made in the same material. The rear wing produces up to three times more downforce than what's found on the LP 560-4.

Non Retina iPad Mini With A6 Processor Reportedly Being Tested

No one knows for sure right now what Apple's plans are with regards to its second generation iPad mini. We've heard a lot of rumors claim that the company will release a Retina display touting iPad mini, whereas others believe that a non Retina version will be released this year and that the Retina one will come in 2014. A developer has apparently sent proof of references in iOS 7 SDK to 9to5Mac that hint at the possibility of Apple testing a non Retina display iPad mini that is powered by an A6 processor. The system-on-chip is similar to the one inside iPhone 5. Three variants of this particular iPad mini are apparently being tested.

Catch Notes dying - will you miss it?

Catch Notes dying - will you miss it?

We all have our very specific ways of taking notes, but it seems 5-10 million of you will need to be changing your methods soon. The popular app Catch Notes will be shutting down. Catch Notes' last day will be August 30th. Users have until then to download their data if they wish to. The Catch Notes team has given you instructions on how to do it, so you don't need to be afraid that you will lose all your notes.

It is sad to see such popular apps and services dying, but what could be causing it? Is an app downloaded 5-10 million times really not able to pull a profit? Catch doesn't go into details.

Zynga Sues Makers Of "Bang With Friends" App Over Alleged Trademark Infringement

Some of you guys might have heard of Zynga's "with friends" series of games, like Words With Friends being one of them. Some of you might have also heard of a parody type of app called Bang With Friends, which is essentially an app that allows people to hook up with each other for casual sex. Given that the names are somewhat similar, we're surprised it actually took Zynga this long to sue them, but it looks like they finally have.

NVIDIA SHIELD Review

With SHIELD, NVIDIA ventures for the first time in the game console business with a mission: making Android a premium gaming platform. NVIDIA absolutely wanted to build a portable gaming device with an integrated controller because without a top-notch controller, skills can't be expressed and without skills, there is no hardcore gaming. SHIELD is going to be the first device to use NVIDIA's Tegra 4 chip and when it ships on July 31st, it will be the most powerful Android device on the market.

Automated Wine Bar Serves You Drinks After Smartcard Transaction

Automated Wine Bar Serves You Drinks After Smartcard Transaction

Self-service seems to be the way to go, and human waiters as well as bartenders do seem to be a dying breed in the process as part of the "collateral damage" whenever restaurants and eating establishments deploy food serving robots. Well, a new wine bar that will be opening in the New York area intends to do away with the classic bartender, but rather, would prefer to have their customers obtain their drinks from an automated kiosk using a smartcard.

GM execs fired over fraudulent India emissions testing

General Motors hadn't had a recall in India since 1995. That changed when it was discovered that certain employees were playing tricks with local emissions testing in order to ensure passing grades for engines. More than ten GM Powertrain employees in India and the US have been let go over the ensuing emissions flap, including Sam Winegarden, VP of global engine engineering, a man who has been with the company since 1969, leading development of some marquee powerplants.

Audi has already rumored to have plans to reveal a 650-horsepower Sport Quattro Concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but it also seems that we'll be getting our first look at the 2015 Audi A8 as well. Based on a panned-out shot of a teaser video, we can clearly see that this is a new sedan model, so it makes sense that is the updated A8 since we've already seen recent spy shots of that car that seemed to be almost complete.

Even though we recently drove a near-production version of the BMW i3, the car still wore light exterior and interior camouflage. Today, BMW took off that little bit of camo and made a big announcement: The i3 will go on sale in the US for $41,350 in the second quarter of 2014. That does not include any state or federal incentives that could lower the price or the $925 destination fee. The i3 will debut with three trim levels, which BMW is referring to as Worlds: Mega (standard in the US), Giga and Tera.

For photography enthusiasts, Lomo is a company you've probably heard of. For those unfamiliar, the company has been responsible these days for creating plastic cameras that produce lo-fi photos that sport interesting effects and colors, and are great for novelty photos and photos that are a bit more interesting to look at. Well it looks like while other camera companies are heading towards the future and producing more hi-tech camera gear, Lomo will be taking a step back, a step back to 1840, a good 170-odd years, and start producing the Petzval lens wh ich was invented in Russia more than a century ago.

Well if you're after an affordable Windows Phone handset, thanks to a leaked rendering obtained by WMPoweruser, we are looking at the Lumia 729 which apparently will be a variant of the Lumia 720 destined for Verizon, although the carrier's branding on the phone seems to be missing.

Toyota hangs on to title of world's largest automaker for first half of 2013

General Motors and Ford can have all the success they please, but it doesn't seem like America's two largest manufacturers are going to topple Toyota in the first half of 2013. According to Reuters, Toyota moved 4.91 million vehicles in the first six months of 2013, representing a 1.1-percent drop from the same period in 2012. GM is on the rise, though, with a four-percent increase in global sales, to 4.85 million. Volkswagen, still sitting in third, saw a 5.5-percent jump to 4.7 million vehicles in the first half of 2013.

If this pace continues for Toyota, it'll finish 2013 in the top sales spot for the second year in a row.

Scientists Implant False Memories Into Mice

Scientists Implant False Memories Into Mice

It looks like there is no need for a telepath like Professor X in our reality to do the tricky job of memory implants, as there is always good ol' science to fall back upon. It seems that scientists have successfully implanted false memories into mice, and this is made possible via optical fibers that have been inserted into a mouse's brain activated memory forming cells. This will, in effect, implant false memories, although it is a pity that we do not have the likes of a talking mouse like Mickey to tell us that the false memories of Donald Duck getting down with Minnie implanted within are actually true.

Sometime in the middle of this month, we did talk about the upcoming Geeksphone Peak+ handset that will run on the Firefox mobile operating system. Battery life is a very real concern with electronic devices. As internal components get bigger and better, the need for substantial backup power increases as well. A new Apple patent describes an intuitive battery management system that will be able to conserve much needed battery life. The system will work based on usage patterns to determine how much power the device needs between charges, it will be capable of powering down “one or two characteristics” of the device based on those patterns so as to conserve energy.
The system will use location data along with user activity to determine how much power the device needs.

Chevy Impala goes from bottom to top of Consumer Reports sedan rankings

It's got a new design, it's got new objectives, it's got a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it's a central part of what could be Chevrolet's "strongest, most competitive retail sedan lineup ever," and now the 2014 Chevrolet Impala has added Turnaround Artist to its resume, going from last to first in Consumer Reports' large sedan ratings. As if it didn't earn itself a couple of beers for that alone, the triumph is all the more noteworthy because the Impala is the first domestic sedan in 20 years to reach that position.

Earlier we had reported that Sony had detailed a list of Xperia devices that would be eligible for the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. Unfortunately the list of devices was hardly extensive and there probably many older Sony Xperia phones that may not see the update at all. If you own a device that's not on the list, that appears to be the case for you now which we guess seems a bit unfair, but Sony has also posted a new blog post in which they detail the process they go through to determine if a phone is eligible for the update.

It isn't every day that the rarest of Ferrari models change hands. In fact, you can count your fingers to get the number of 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T. Spyders that ever existed. The 1967 Ferrari you see here is one of those ten Spyders, and it has stayed in the same family since it was bought new.
The car was bought through Luigi Chinetti, Ferrari's US importer at the time, by the late Eddie Smith Sr., a Ferrari collector and businessman from North Carolina. Smith kept it – and kept driving it – until the day he died six years ago. Since then, this remarkable machine has been collecting dust.

As noted during the announcement, the dongle itself is a mere two inches long, with a bulbous circular end opposite the necessary HDMI port. It's got white Chrome Branding printed on one side and the requisite FCC info on the other. While we take no issue with the shape itself, we're concerned that flared-out end might take up the space of two HDMI ports despite it needing only one to operate. Regardless, it's a solid little thing, constructed of black plastic and jammed with the 2.4Ghz wireless radio needed to talk with tablets and phones.

While most of the tablet's specs are improved over last year's model, one of the most visible differences is its HD display. Our experience looking at the new Nexus 7 was very similar to the bliss that we had after seeing the Nexus 10's panel for the first time, only this one is of course smaller. Certainly, a pixel density of 323 ppi is pretty impressive, and we were quite impressed by the amount of detail we were able to see in the sample videos and photos running on the demo device we handled. We loved how the Nexus 7 felt in our hands, especially since the original version was a good deal thicker.
