And while we're still here soaking up some of the SoCal sun (okay, so it's actually raining a little), it's time to look back and decide what new models grabbed our attention in the best way possible while we perused the LA Convention Center. This show occasionally gets shafted on ultra-hot reveals simply because it falls directly between a major European auto show (either Paris or Frankfurt, depending on the year) and the North American International Auto Show in Detroit – the most important show in the United States.

Honda debuts the 2013 Civic that will fix everything

Honda has officially unveiled the 2013 Civic at the 2012 LA Auto Show, complete with its substantially revised interior and exterior, which the Japanese automaker hopes will stem the tide of criticism levied at the completely redesigned 2012 model. Designers did away with the short-lived front and rear ends found on last year's ill-received Civic in favor of a look that borrows heavily from the attractive Accord line. Buyers will now find Bluetooth hands free calling and streaming audio as standard equipment alongside a rear-view camera, USB port and redundant controls on the steering wheel, among other goodies.

Hyundai (and sister company Kia) found itself in a bit of hot water recently over false fuel economy estimates on the window stickers of its cars. To remedy this, the automakers will be compensating some 900,000 owners based on their vehicles' odometer readings, and the companies will add an additional 15 percent over the dollar value. In simple terms, this means that for someone who has driven 15,000 miles, a 1-mpg fuel economy reduction would result in a reimbursement of $88.

Nintendo TVii Coming to Japan December 8

While Japan has yet to experience the Nintendo Wii U, the console maker has announced that not only it will be launched on December 8th, the Land of the Rising Sun will also get to have one Wii U feature that was lacking in the North American version. The Japanese edition of Wii U will be shipped with the Nintendo TVii app. Also, the infrared remote functionality will cost 100 yen (about US$1.20) from Nintendo's eShop.

Four years ago, Renault confirmed that it would partner with India's Bajaj Auto to develop a rival to the Tata Nano. At the time, as everyone waited for the Tata Nano to arrive, you could have used a Richter scale to measure the tremors the executive suites of any automaker with an interest in the low end of emerging markets. Then the Nano, still the cheapest car in the world, didn't sell so well – at the end of last year its sales were just six percent of its most conservative projections – and everyone seemed content to let Tata spend the money to figure out if there really was a market for the cheapest car in the world.

Asus Taichi Shipments Delayed

It looks like the Taichi hybrid laptop from Asus is too elusive to handle. First unveiled at Computex 2012 in Taiwan, the Taichi sports a dual IPS display that easily converts the device into a tablet or a notebook, depending on your mood. When the Asus Taichi visited the FCC last month, we were already assuming that it will arrive just in time for the holiday season. But it's not. According to PC World, Asus is delaying the shipments of the hybrid in the U.S.

An Asus spokesperson reportedly told the publication via email that the shipments could start next month, but it could also be delayed up to next year.

Google Now Allows Book Pre-orders On Google Play

Following the recent Google+ integration on Google Play, it seems that the Mountain View-based technology giant is now allowing customers to pre-order books on the Google Play Store. To try out the new feature, simply visit Google Play and click on the Books category. There you will find the “New And Coming Soon” section that basically lists all the books that can be pre-ordered. Then you can complete the order process by tapping the pre-order button.
Customers will be charged upon availability of the book and they can also cancel their pre-orders anytime. This is good news for Android users.

Inside Line reports Buick is planning to bring back some of the more storied names from the company's past, including the Grand National, GNX and the T-Type. Those cars rose to prominence in the 1970s and '80s to become performance legends of their day. CTS sales nosediving thanks to new ATS, so GM will cut output

Cadillac designed the compact ATS to compete with the BMW 3 Series, but GM says the new Caddy is also cutting into CTS sales. Edmunds.com backs that up with data showing potential buyers are cross-shopping the ATS with the CTS as well as the BMW. Automotive News spoke to the head of Cadillac sales, Chase Hawkins, who admits The General expected the ATS to cannibalize sales of the CTS. But Hawkins says a plan is in place to deal with the drop in CTS sales: make fewer of them.

"We've planned for ATS to take some CTS customers out of the market who we otherwise would have seen," Hawkins tells AN.

Science had always drawn inspiration from nature – take flight for example. Well, the Namib Desert beetle proved to be an inspiration for NBD Nano co-founder Deckard Sorensen, where this beetle can live in an area which receives a mere 0.5" of rainfall annually, and it survives by drawing 12% of its weight in water from the air in order to prevent it from dying of thirst. Deckard Sorensen decided to work on a similar model, resulting in a self-filling water bottle that will hopefully be able to hit the worldwide market by the time 2014 arrives.
