Pioneering astronaut Neil Armstrong dies at 82
It's a story that we hoped we'd never have to report. Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on Earth's Moon, has died at the age of 82 after complications from heart surgery three weeks earlier. His greatest accomplishment very nearly speaks for itself - along with help from fellow NASA astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, he changed the landscape of space exploration through a set of footprints. It's still important to stress his accomplishments both before and after the historic Apollo 11 flight, though.

Samsung: Want a 16-megapixel camera with Xenon flash on your Galaxy S3?
It can be said that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the South Korean manufacturer's best attempt at churning out a smartphone to date, and they have done quite the bang up job as well. Here is a rumor that most probably would not end up as true – a new and improved Galaxy S3. We are talking about the same Galaxy S3 body being put on offer, where it will carry a similar 4.8″ HD Super AMOLED display sans any physical buttons, with the flavor of the day being a 16-megapixel sensor that has 10x optical zoom capability to boot, in addition to a Xenon flash as well to capture images under extremely low light conditions.

TangiBot manufactures ethics controversy by replicating open-source Makerbot 3D printer
A Kickstarter entry has managed to stir the fairness pot by touting a MakerBot Replicator clone called TangiBot - legally copied from the original 3D printer's open source plans. The project's creator, Matt Strong, says that the device will offer "the same performance and features at a roughly 33 percent discount" to Makerbot's $1,800 price tag, thanks to Chinese manufacturing. That's inflamed some in the 3D printing fraternity, who take exception to the exact copying of a design without any improvement.

Final Fantasy Dimensions tipped for end of August release
Final Fantasy Dimensions is an upcoming RPG title for the Android-powered platform, where it has been slapped with an end of August release date – at least this is what Siliconera claims. Originally released in episodes for feature phones in Japan, Final Fantasy Dimensions has received a stunning (relatively speaking here) graphical overhaul, and news of news – it is not only available on the Android platform, but iOS-powered devices, too, will be able to get a hold of it this coming August 31st.

Scarlet Motors promises an open EV design process
It's not every day that you see a new EV manufacturer get started; it's even less common when the company promises a switch-up of the typical automaker's formula. Scarlet Motors has made its formal debut with an aim towards the same kind of openness in its electric sports cars that founder Julien Fourgeaud would be familiar with from his days at Nokia and the Symbian Foundation. In addition to giving a peek behind the curtain, Tesla-style, Finland-based Scarlet wants future (and eventually current) drivers to influence the design choices themselves, both through a dedicated community as well as Facebook and Twitter.

HTC Proto photo leaked
We first talked about the HTC Proto back in July, and at the beginning of this month, the HTC Proto was allegedly spotted in a leak. Bear in mind that the HTC Proto might sound as though it is future forward, but this is actually an entry level handset, and it seems that the good people over at the Verge have managed to cobble together a picture of this yet to be announced smartphone.

RIM tries to patent system-generated blog entries, we quietly update our resumés
Research in Motion has applied to patent a system for automatically drafting a blog entry on your smartphone. In the examples, it would build out the bare-bones of an entry as soon as it hits a "trigger event," such as taking a picture at a pre-determined set of GPS co-ordinates. Presumably, all you'd have to do is fill in the witty caption below and hit send, saving you valuable minutes on your road-trip.

Microsoft reveals new logo after 25 years, proves that it's (still) okay to be square
Remember that time Microsoft teased what most sane humans thought were new logos. That was right around two years ago, but the branding you see above is no mistake - that's the new Microsoft logo, landing just months after Windows 8's new flag and merely weeks before the aforesaid operating system takes the planet by storm. Astoundingly, it has been a full quarter-century since Microsoft gave itself a new logo, and while we're sure pundits will jump all over it just because "dealing with change is hard," there's no doubt that the outfit's new face is bold in its simplicity. Care to learn more.

BMW Zagato Roadster breaks cover in Pebble Beach
BMW and Zagato decided that their initial collaboration on the Zagato Coupe, which debuted just three months ago at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, was so successful that an encore was called for. The result is this, the Zagato Roadster, which was conceived, designed and produced in the remarkably short time of six weeks to be ready for its debut this weekend at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Perhaps the haste with which the Z4-based Zagato Roadster came into being doesn't impress you because it is, after all, a droptop version of the Coupe, most of which has been carried over intact.

Almost half of U.S. consumers think 4G LTE is unnecessary
. There is no question that 4G LTE is the future of mobile data. Among the four major U.S. carriers, Verizon (VZ) and AT&T's (T) 4G LTE networks cover a majority of Americans, while T-Mobile and Sprint (S) are in the process of developing and rolling out their own high-speed LTE networks. Even though most high-end and mid-range smartphones being sold today in the U.S. offer the technology, a shocking number of consumers aren't interested in it. Piper Jaffray (PJC) analyst Christopher M. Larsen revealed, per AppleInsider, that according to a survey of 3,000 U.S.

US Authorities Clamp Down on Pirate Android App Stores

Android app developers applauded the move, as these apps are pirated outside of Google Play and they would not get paid for it. The three websites were Applanet.net, Appbucket.net, and Snappzmarket.com. Among the three, Applanet is not afraid of what it does as stated in its Twitter account: “Applanet is an exact replica of the android market. Get free paid apps.

[REVIEW] Shuttle XPC SZ77R5
Introduction. During this year's Computex, one of the products that caught our eyes was this Shuttle XPC (model: SZ77R5). It is a fairly small machine so you tend to walk by very quickly, however we stopped to read the specifications sheet of this little black box claiming to be a fully-fledged gaming rig. First impression was quite obviously "yea, like this baby case will... "
After agreeing to test one of these XPC (eXtreme PC) models, we have to admit there is a lot more than meets the eye.
So, Shuttle?

Archos announces 101 XS tablet with built-in keyboard dock, arriving in November for $400

Staying true to the company's budget-friendly rep, the 101 XS will go for $400 when it drops in November, and that includes the tablet's main attraction: a keyboard dock that also acts as a cover to protect the 1,280 x 800 display. Brother MFC-J4510DW Business Smart Series color inkjet all-in-one printer
He ain't heavy, he's my brother, or so the desktop computer says when communicating with the Brother-branded printer. Most of us would have laser printers at the office and perhaps even at home, but for those of us who cannot really afford a laser printer as well as the toner cartridges, a more affordable solution would be an inkjet, albeit at the expense of print quality.

For those looking for a digital camera to take with them on holiday and don't need all those high-end features and just want something simple but compact, then Nikon's recently announced Coolpix S6400 might be a camera worth taking a look at. Sporting a 16MP image sensor, the Coolpix S6400 will feature 12x optical zoom, great for zooming in on faces and objects, and a 3" touchscreen display on its back. One of its key features would probably be its thinness in which the thinnest part of the body measures about 19.8mm thin, not too shabby, right.
