Many recent Android tablets have built-in IR blasters, enabling users to use these devices as remote controls. But what about the older models. Here is where Beacon steps in. Beacon is a standalone IR transmitter that works with devices that run Android 2.3.3 or later. All you need are four AA batteries and connect the Beacon with your Android tablet via Bluetooth.
Having an IR transmitter is only half the job. You also need to download a compatible remote app from the Android Market for Beacon to work. In this case, it's Dijit. The app contains an extensive list of supported TVs and components, making the initial setup a breeze.
