We're just beginning our sojourn through this year's BlackBerry World, and we've already found a rare gem that may not get a lot of face time here in the States: the Curve 9220. This little 3G-less beaut takes advantage of BlackBerry OS 7.1, but it isn't going to attract the spec-hungry folk - it packs a 2MP camera and features a 2.4-inch non-touch display with 320 x 240 resolution. It very well may, however, gain the favor of anyone looking for a budget-friendly BBM device. Seeing as this is the phone's major selling point, we made sure to take a few minutes to play with its keyboard.

Watch as a DIY 8-bit computer comes together, learn something in the process

We've actually already seen one completely home-built 8-bit computer but, while Jake Eisenmann wasn't afraid to show off his creation, Kyle Hovey is actually inviting us along for the ride. The project started up last week when Hovey gathered his first batch of parts and a pair of books and started designing a simple 8-bit computer based on the SAP-1 architecture (SAP stands for Simple as Possible). The transistor-transistor logic (TTL) design is slowly coming together and every step of the process is being documented by Hovey on his blog so that others may follow along and learn from his experience (and, most likely, his mistakes as well).

RIM, not Samsung, reportedly behind ‘Wake Up' Apple protests

. Reports of a staged protest outside an Apple Store emerged last week after a bus full of paid activists dressed in all black stood outside an Apple Store in Australia chanting “wake up.” Early reports suggested Samsung and marketing agency Tongue were behind the staged event, but after Samsung denied any involvement, a potential new culprit has arisen. Macworld's Australian sister site did some digging and found code on Tongue's Wake Up website that points not to Samsung, but instead to Research In Motion.

LG to focus Android efforts, no plans for future Windows Phone handsets

Windows Phone has had its share of ups and downs as the operating system struggles to gain a foothold in a smartphone market dominated by iOS and Android devices. It is this dominance that has LG backing away from Microsoft's mobile OS in order to refocus efforts on Android development. Speaking to the Korea Herald, an LG spokesperson said, “the total unit of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a meaningful figure.”. LG hasn't necessarily experienced smooth sailing on the smartphone seas, but committing to a single operating system should allow the company to get the most out of their mobile division.

LG has announced its own cloud service, dubbed LG Cloud, and ready to host your digital content starting tomorrow, May 1. Compatible with Android handsets, PCs, and TVs, the new service is presented as the first to "allow users to manage and consume all types of content on three screens without a separate set-top box.". To use the service on your Android phone you'll first need to download the LG Cloud app (which is already available in Google Play).
LG Cloud will be either free, or paid, depending on your needs. 5 GB of standard free storage is offered to all new users.

Fast-food chain TGI Friday’s has come out with an Android app that not only allows you to do the basic stuff (such as find a TGI Friday in the first place, display the menu and also share promotions), but also allows you to open a tab and pay straight from your phone. They also say that you can find "some of our bartenders’ best tips on life...and living it up." Or, as I would suggest, you can just keep your phone in your pocket and live your life. So far, so good. However, just looking at the thumbnails in Google Play has me going "my eyes! my eyes!".

Aston Martin to offer Ultimate Edition before replacing the DBS

In the earlier part of the last decade, the king of the Aston Martin hill was a model called the Vanquish. More muscular than the DB7 it superseded, the Vanquish was offered first with a 450-horsepower V12, and then as the Vanquish S with 514 hp on tap. The flagship model from Newport Pagnell was replaced in 2007 by the DBS, but before it went the way of the proverbial dodo, Aston offered a final run of 40 examples called the Vanquish S Ultimate Edition. And now that its successor is itself due for replacement, sources expect Aston to offer a DBS Ultimate Edition, as well.

Sony ST21i Tapioca pictured, quite the chunky Android

The first image of what is said to be the Sony ST21i has leaked, and its appearance takes very little inspiration from recent Xperia design language. While phones like the Xperia S emphasize clean, simple lines and a thin shell, the handset codenamed Tapioca is plump and curvy. Based on the image, the phone will ship with Xperia branding (not that we thought it wouldn't). Rumors put the ST21i on the low end of the smartphone spectrum, a contrast to the Hayabusa concept leaked earlier today. The Tapioca will feature an 800MHz single-core CPU, 512MB of RAM, and a 3.2-inch display. Somewhat redeeming is the inclusion of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Grand Theft Auto 5 to be announced prior to E3? [Rumor]

Grand Theft Auto 5 has yet to see an official release date. In fact there has been a lot of speculation and rumors and alleged leaks, all of which are pointing to pretty much everywhere and anywhere on the calendar. Adding to the speculation is Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Securities who believes that while a release of the game is slated for the 23rd of October (shortly after BioShock Infinite), he believes that Rockstar could be officially announcing the game itself on June 4th, the day before E3 starts.

Acer's Q1 2012: World's fourth biggest PC maker made just $11.2 million in profit

Acer's Q1 financial report reveals that the fourth biggest PC maker in the world is feeling weak after posting a very modest profit - three months after it declared a $212 million loss for 2011. Turnover for the first three months of this year was NT$113 billion ($3.8 billion) and profits after tax were NT$331 million ($11.2 million). In context, the company suffered an 11.4 percent decline in revenue quarter-on-quarter, but still made NT$118 billion ($40 million) in profit during Q1 2011, a spectacular collapse of 72 percent year-on-year.

Wondering if Project Glass is in a working state yet. At least one feature seems to be working out OK for Google in this ambitious venture. In an interview with Charlie Rose, Google engineer Sebastian Thrun took a photo of the subject with the pair of glasses. Using nothing but gestures, the photo was taken and uploaded straight to Google+, promising functionality if I say so myself.

O2 UK launches new wallet service, helps you empty yours (video)

This may not be the UK operators first attempt at dipping its fingers logo into your pockets, but O2's new mobile wallet does bring with it some de rigeur functionality. Taking a leaf out of Barclays' book, the new app lets you send "Money Messages," essentially text-driven money transfers to any phone number. There's smart-shopping features, too, such as a barcode reader for price comparisons, and daily discount deals to stop the well from going dry too soon. Interestingly, you can also apply for a physical companion card, based on Visa's pre-pay service to bring your virtual wallet into the real world.

Samsung hires protesters and tells Apple to ‘wake up' [video]

. A marketing agency called Tongue has reportedly begun a guerrilla marketing campaign against Apple in Australia. The agency recently hired protesters who were sent in a large black bus to an Apple Store, where they repeatedly chanted “Wake Up.” To accompany the protest, Tongue created a website called “Wake Up Australia” that includes a countdown to the launch of the Galaxy S III, leading many to believe that the agency was hired by Samsung.

BlackBerry Curve 9320 surfaces again in hands-on pictures

We have seen the BlackBerry Curve 9320 before being handled by BGR.in in India and once again we have some more hands-on pictures, this time from Sohoa in Vietnam. The phone looks similar to the recently announced Curve 9220 but features a matte silver trim around the front edges which gives it a more upmarket look compared to the spartan 9220. You also get some additional features over the Curve 9220. The camera has been upgraded from 2 megapixel to 3.2 megapixel and now has an LED flash. The 9320 also adds 3G HSPA connectivity that the 9220 lacks.

Yesterday, we told you guys about Acer Iconia Tab A100 tablets receiving their Android 4.0 update a little early, and now, it looks like the 10-inch version is joining in on the fun as well. Acer Iconia Tab A500 users have been reporting that Ice Cream Sandwich has come early for their devices. Officially, Android 4.0.3 wasn't scheduled to begin rolling out for the tab until the 27th, but it looks like Acer has decided to go ahead and roll out the update early for some (not all) users. But what surprised us is the company's decision to end its support for Unite, a built-in personal cloud streaming platform first introduced in 2009. Opera is also killing Opera Widgets including its built-in speech recognition, text-to-speech and VoiceXML. But why? Perhaps, the company had to say no to the good in order to say yes to the best. Chrysler vs. Pure Detroit 'Imported From Detroit' legal dustup settled

Chrysler and Pure Detroit have agreed to a settlement in the legal wrangling over Chrysler's "Imported from Detroit" tagline. According to The Detroit News, the automaker and T-shirt purveyor have asked a judge to dismiss the lawsuits against one another. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Chrysler had sued the entrepreneurial company in March 2011, after Pure Detroit sought to cash in on the popularity of the phrase following last year's Super Bowl ad featuring Eminem. Chrysler has its own line of "Imported" merchandise, which it has used to fund charitable organizations.

As you may know, there is at least one out and proud Ubuntu devotee on staff. So, when Google Drive was announced, there were a few grumbles from those who noticed Linux was absent from the list of supported platforms. Especially in the wake of Picasa for Linux, many were afraid that Big G was slowly killing off it's (comparably) robust support of the open-source OS. But, rest easy, in addition to Dropbox and Ubuntu One, soon enough you'll be able to use Google's offering as well.
