We have heard of Hideo Kojima's FOX engine before, and it looked good, but today, Mr. Kojima shows that the Fox engine supports global illumination (GI), a class of rendering that takes into account an essential property of light: it bounces around. To demonstrate how good the rendering is, Konami has taken photos of several locations. Their team then set out to re-create the same environment in a completely synthetic world, and measure how close their real-time rendering engine can get to the actual photo. To give you some context, in the real world, light bounces from one surface to the other.

Ubergizmo, Konami's Fox Engine uses global illumination to achieve uber-real rendering
